Old news already, since Gwyneth Paltrow sneakily wore one of the dresses in the collection to Golden Globe awards – however, she didn’t pose for the red carpet cameras so that doesn’t count and I can still talk about the Valentino pre-fall 2014 collection as a new thing (it actually is a new thing but you know time flies in fashion land) because I am head over heels in love with it. Taking inspiration from women who were known for dressing with plenty of personality like Isabella Blow and Anna Piaggi, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli seems to have found the key of eccentricity. Making “butterfly” the leifmotif, they were able to explore new textures and patterns as well as saluting its metaphoric side – the cocoon shape and the layering all the while blooming with color. I still remember the gorgeous butterfly collection in our living room and being mesmerized by every single detail on their wings, the idea alone of carrying their delicate feathers around my collar is giving me DIY fever.
