Being a super ordinary girl, I grew up playing with Barbies and my mother’s pearls – only I took it to another level by sewing the exact replicas of my mom’s night dresses to the Barbies from hosiery and brutally sticking tiny white beads around their necks with glue which made them so glamourous that they were basically sleeping and showering with pearls. A level of sophistication I can never reach myself, since my very first pearl necklace & earring duo was gifted to me as a wedding present and I freaked out so much that my parents had to lock it to a safe. I’m not sure when I’ll be able to see them again so in the meantime I found comfort in another form of, a more contemporary and young rendition of pearl.
Delfina Delettrez Fendi (here and here) and Sophie Bille Brahe added other dimentions to the double pearl trend which emerged with Dior’s “Mise en Dior” earrings (you can find similar Satomi Kawakita ones here), making it much more fun and relatively quotidian. If you are handy enough, favourite DIY blogger Geneva Vanderzeil created a post to show how it’s done; if not there are really cheap & chic options (here, here and here) or vintage (here, here and here) because if you’re not going to buy pearl earrings vintage, what are you going to buy?
