I would like to introduce Elif Cığızoğlu to my non-Turkish readers – along with Zeynep Tosun, she is the talk of the (fashion community) town as the most talented fashion designer “du jour.” She doesn’t need any introduction to Turkish readers as she is overly popular in my country, especially her couture gowns and metal bar detailed dress / jackets are on everyone’s “must” or at least “lust” list.
Upon graduating from The Marmara Fine Arts Faculty with a degree in Fashion, my namesake designer continued her studies in France, England and the United States. Following a 3-year career at Donna Karan in Men’s Fashion, she returned to Turkey and launched her own eponymous label – which carry the traces of her menswear experience. All her masterfully crafted clothes have really strong and masculine exteriors however once a woman slips inside them they become insanely sexy, strangely bundling you up. Black fur dress, burgundy leopar details and intricate rectangular cut-outs are my favourite. (Don’t be mistaken thinking she copied Alexander Wang, this has been her signature for over 3 years.)
You have to click through to see more of her designs – it was really hard to pick 3 that will show the essence of the collection!
