Zeynep Tosun S/S 2013

Zeynep Tosun, is – to me – one of the most talented Turkish fashion designers. Don’t think that the fact that I work with her affects this opinion, it is extremely objective. I read into every single piece and design, get mesmerized every time.

Her S/S 2013 collection, is about a woman who can heal the devil inside herself. Inspired by the Phoenix, a legendary bird that witnessed the end of the world 3 times, the strenght and the wisdom of this woman are represented in hard structures and provocative details underneath dreamy chiffon and silhouettes. The leather garters and spikes – which are inherited from the previous collection –  tells an almost fetish like story, whereas the clever layering, gritty cleavage, metal details and the crew neck shirts – which is her signature already – portray her interminable strenght. Metal caps – which FYI are REAL metal, like iron casting – and the quilted details are her armours in this war.

The exquisite embellishment is hand sewn by local women from Bartın using metal mesh, balancing the delicacy of the collection. Amazing ethnic print is a heritage from her Turkish roots, obviously. My favourite pieces are the visor that turns out to become a cardigan and the envelope skirts. Can’t wait for this collection to come to Istanbul for Fashion Week and the day I get to see them all with my own eyes.
