New York S/S 2013 Trend Report

I’ve been so busy with my work but fortunately had the chance to catch up with NYFW and do a little (tiny, obviously) trend report. I have to leave out Proenza for two reasons – one is I am making this trend report before I can see it. Two is it doesn’t matter – they are incomperable.

First of all I HAVE to start with this huge trend comeback: gladiator boot sandals! Or whatever! Yes they’re back.

Alexander Wang

The second most recognizable trend – or as you would call “inspiration” – was the proenza schoulerisation of New York! Check out the codes of S/S 13 shows – asian inspired shapes, woven or shiny fabrics asymmetrically wrapped. The colors! Hello Proenza F/W 12-13 all over again!

Derek Lam - Helmut Lang

Ohne Titel - Rodarte

Just like the old days – as in 40’s – arts and crafts is IN again. I don’t know what to call it – a patchwork or a textile collage – but it was all over the runway this season.

Helmut Lang - Marc by Marc Jacobs

Jen Kao - 3.1 Phillip Lim

Don’t feel so good with a mini skirt? No problem, sheer hems alongate the look and make chiffon wearable.

Rag& Bone - Thakoon

Cushnie et Ochs - Helmut Lang

Crop top trend is continuing with a seriously more sporty vibe, chanelling Mel C all over again. I think cropped vests and sporty bras are so much stylish than bustiers, leaving more to the imagination.

Charlotte Ronson - Derek Lam

Rag & Bone - Tibi

Osklen - Peter Som

It’s black – it’s white. It’s tough for you to get by. Yeah yeah yeah. Tiny little squares and invisible plaid rock.

Jil Sander Navy - Marc Jacobs

Alexandre Herchcovitch - 3.1 Phillip Lim

Finally the micro trends : baggy bermuda shorts…

Alexander Wang - Suno

…and loose shirts that meet halfway (of the body) – oh hey look their shoes match too!…

Edun - Narciso Rodriguez

…and tiny aztec fringes…

Altuzarra - Tory Burch

That’s a wrap!
